Ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved makeup. But, honestly, I’m not someone who uses very much makeup anymore — for a few reasons: it’s expensive, it’s kind of wasteful, and (most importantly) a lot of it is filled with chemicals.
The use of chemicals in cosmetic products has really started to concern me over the last couple of years. So I’ve really been trying to avoid using products that contain toxic chemicals because of the risk to my health. But I still like to wear a bit of makeup sometimes, so I’ve been using mainly natural makeup. And one of my favourite natural makeup products is the Pure Anada Mascara.
The Pure Anada Mascara comes in 2 different colours — black and brown and it contains 97% natural ingredients. Here’s a bit of information about it, the brand, and why I love it!
About the Brand: Pure Anada is Canadian-owned, completely cruelty-free, and offers a large selection of mostly vegan cosmetics. Pure Anada works at ensuring their ingredients are ethically sourced, contain only clean ingredients (including avoiding the “Dirty Dozen” and “Toxic Ten”), and are free from some of the more common allergens.
Product Description: “Finally, a natural mascara you can feel good about putting on your lashes! It is naturally paraben-free, gluten-free, and mercury-free. You will be amazed at how well this mascara builds volume and length to your lashes. We trust that this will be the natural mascara you’ve been waiting for!”
How to Use: “Apply to the eyelashes by starting as close to the eye as possible and gently pulling through the lashes. Allow to dry and apply another coat if desired. Pure Anada Mascara is great for layering.”
Ingredients: The ingredients of this mascara are mainly natural — compared to most mainstream / drugstore mascaras:
Aqua, CI 77499, Hydrogenated Olive Oil Stearyl Esters, Stearic Acid, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Myrica Pubescens (Bayberry) Fruit Wax, Pullulan, Glyceryl Caprylate, Oleic/Linoleic/Linolenic Polyglycerides, Xanthan Gum, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Galactoarabinan
Price: The regular price of the Pure Anada Mascara is $16.00; but I’ve frequently seen in on sale on Well.ca for a few dollars off.
Is it cruelty-free? YES!
Is it vegan? YES!
Why do I love it? I love everything about this mascara! For starters, it’s 100% cruelty-free and vegan, and it’s also Canadian-made and owned. I also love that it’s 97% natural — which makes me feel a lot more comfortable using this than other mascaras with chemicals. The three points I look for in a decent mascara — other than being cruelty-free and vegan — are good packaging, high-quality product, and at a reasonable price. And this mascara fits all three of those points!
Packaging: The packaging of this mascara is lovely! The quality is great — not cheaply made — and it just feels really sturdy. If you’ve ever used a mascara with a flimsy wand and cheap packaging, well this mascara is the complete opposite of that. I love that the brush part of the wand is curved, which I find makes applying the mascara really easy.
Quality: The quality is amazing! It applies so nicely to my lashes and, unlike some mascaras, it only takes 2 coats to give me nice, full-looking lashes. I could also easily get away with just one coat, but I like a more dramatic look. Another thing I love is that it dries quickly. Nothing is more annoying (as far as makeup goes) than mascara that just doesn’t seem to dry! I also like that this mascara doesn’t flake; it stays in place until I take it off in the evening. The one down side is that it’s not waterproof; but, I don’t really like waterproof mascaras anyway because I just end up tearing all my lashes out trying to get it off. But if you prefer waterproof mascara, this one probably isn’t for you.
Price point: Something that I really respect about this product is the price point. I really admire the fact that Pure Anada has created quality products and is selling them at a reasonable price. I’ve seen mascaras with a similar quality to them retail for $30 or more. So to pay half of that for a great product is a wonderful thing!
This is the best mascara I’ve ever used, and it’s one that I’ll be sticking with!
