Toria’s Top Ten: My 10 Favourite Movies!

Today I’m back with another Toria’s Top Ten post! This one is probably going to be one of the hardest blog posts I’ve written (totally kidding …but kind of not)! I’m going to be sharing with you my ten favourite movies of all time. For me, this is so hard because there are so many movies that I love! It’s so hard to pick just ten! But, I thought long and hard about this and I’m pretty happy with my choices, so here are my top 10 favourite movies!

Connie and Carla

Connie and Carla is about two musical theatre-obsessed women (Connie and Carla) who accidentally witness a mob murder and have to runaway or be killed themselves. They move to Los Angeles and hideout as drag queens, where they sing and perform a variety of musicals at a club in West Hollywood.

Crossroads is about three former childhood best friends — Lucy, Mimi, and Kit — who take a road trip cross-country to Los Angeles with a local musician and stranger named Ben. Along the way they find themselves and reconnect with each other.

Erin Brockovich

Erin Brockovich is based on a true story about an unemployed single mother (Erin Brockovich) who gets a job as a legal assistant at a law firm in California. Erin discovers that Pacific Gas & Electric Company has been knowingly polluting a small city’s water for decades, causing severe health problems for many local residents. Working with Ed, the lawyer, they sue PG&E and make them payout.

The Help

The Help is a story based in the 1960s about an aspiring journalist, Eugenia “Skeeter”, who decides to write a book about the experiences of local African American maids — Aibileen and Minny, among others. Together with these women, she writes about their experiences working for white families and the hardships they’ve experienced in their lives.

In Her Shoes

In Her Shoes is about two very different sisters — Maggie, the party-girl, and Rose, the lawyer. After a fight, Rose kicks Maggie out of her apartment. Maggie later finds out that they have a long-lost grandmother and decides not to tell Rose. While separated, the sisters discover more about themselves and make changes in their own lives before being reunited.

Misery is about a famous author, Paul, who gets in a car accident and is rescued by his “biggest fan”, Annie. Severely injured, Paul is cared for by Annie, a former nurse. Little does Paul know, Annie is obsessed with him and his novels, particularly the Misery series. Paul’s recovery becomes a nightmare as Annie’s obsession grows deeper. With no one aware of Paul’s whereabouts, Annie has no intention of Paul ever leaving.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding

My Big Fat Greek Wedding is about a 30-year-old Greek woman, Toula, who falls in love with a non-Greek man, Ian. Toula’s family wants her to marry a Greek man and so she hides her relationship with Ian. When her family finds out, they struggle with the fact that Ian is not Greek, but they decide that they want Toula to be happy.

The River Wild

The River Wild is about a Mother named Gail who takes her son and husband rafting for her son’s birthday. Gail, who is a rafting expert, and her family encounter a pair of criminals who are on the run from police. Together they must survive the dangerous waters and these criminals.

Stand By Me

Stand By Me is a story about a writer, Gordie, who, after finding out that his childhood friend Chris has been killed, writes about his three childhood buddies — Chris, Teddy, and Vern — and their adventure to find a dead body during the summer of 1959. Gordie tells a story about their struggles and their friendship.

Titanic is a fictional story (but based on the true story of the R.M.S. Titanic) about a wealthy young woman who meets and falls in love with a poor artist while aboard the Titanic, during its ill-fated and tragic voyage.

And that’s my top 10 movies list! There are so many movies that I really love, but I would say that these ones are the highest up on my favourites list!
