The Body Shop Truly Nourishing Banana Shampoo Review

Happy Family Day to my fellow Ontarians!

Today I have another cruelty-free product review to share! I’ve been wanting to try the Truly Nourishing Banana Shampoo from The Body Shop for so long, and about a month ago, I did just that!  Since then I’ve been using it as my daily (well, actually every 3 or 4 days) shampoo! I’m seriously enjoying it, so I thought I’d share my complete thoughts on it with you! (Again with the rhyming …I guess I tend to do that a lot!)

Description: “Enriched with real banana puree from Ecuador, this cleansing shampoo is irresistible. Use daily to gently cleanse your hair, leaving you with beautiful results.

How to Use: “Massage into wet hair, rinse thoroughly and repeat as needed. Use with our Banana Truly Nourishing Conditioner and Hair Mask for optimal results.

Price: There are three price points for three different sizes of this shampoo available — $6 CAD (60 mL), $11 CAD (250 mL), and $16 CAD (400 mL).

Size: This shampoo comes in three sizes — 60 mL, 250 mL, and 400 mL. I picked up the 250 mL size bottle.

Is it Cruelty-Free?  Yes!

Is it Vegan?  No.

Availability: The Truly Nourishing Banana Shampoo can be found at The Body Shop — both online and in-store.

Pros: Cruelty-free; 100% vegetarian; Silicone-free, Enriched with Community Trade organic banana puree from Ecuador; Leaves hair feeling soft; Hydrates hair; Leaves hair looking shiny.

Cons: Expensive; Need quite a bit of product to create lather.

My Thoughts: I absolutely love this banana shampoo! First off, it smells really good — not quite like fresh bananas, but pretty close! The scent kind of reminds me of a mix of those banana candies and dried bananas.  I find it leaves my hair feeling nice and clean but not stripped of natural oils. It also leaves my hair feeling quite soft and light. In addition, it really moisturizes my hair even without conditioner. I typically use conditioner just to seal in as much moisture as possible, but I could totally occasionally get away with not using conditioner after using this shampoo. And once my hair dries, I find my hair actually looks really healthy and shiny! On the negative side, I find I need quite a bit of product to create a good lather. I know it’s not always necessary to have a good lather to properly clean hair, but I feel my hair is cleaner if I do get a good lather. What I’ve been doing with this shampoo is applying a little bit to my wet hair and then rinsing it out; then after, I apply a bit more, and I find the second application really creates a nice lather. My only issue with this shampoo is that I feel like I’m going through it a bit quicker than I would with other shampoos. Would I repurchase this shampoo? Probably not …but just because of the price. Otherwise the product itself is amazing! I highly recommend it!

  1. I was looking at this shampoo in body shop and decided against up due to the price. Might have a look when they have an offer on, thanks for the review 😊
