I try to do the best I can when it comes to buying cruelty-free. But I’m obviously not perfect …who is, right? Over the years, I’ve been able to find cruelty-free alternatives to most beauty and household products that I use. Today, I thought I would share with you my favourite cruelty-free brands and my favourite specific cruelty-free products that I love using!
Makeup: Buying cruelty-free makeup is probably one of the easiest things to do. The price of cruelty-free makeup is generally in line with all other makeup, and there are many cruelty-free options. For drugstore makeup brands, I really like Flower, e.l.f., Physicians Formula, NYX, Marcelle, and Hard Candy. For higher end brands, I really like Urban Decay and Tarte. I honestly don’t buy much makeup; I pretty much just wear the basics and most of the makeup that I purchase is at the drugstore. But, there are so many cruelty-free makeup brands, which is awesome!
Nail polish: I personally really like China Glaze, Mineral Fusion, and Sparitual. But, there are so many cruelty-free nail polish brands available, including Orly, Pacifica, Zoya, Butter London, and so many more!
Nail polish remover: For nail polish remover, I really like the Mineral Fusion Nail Polish Remover. It’s excellent quality and I believe it’s vegan! I also recently discovered the one from Delon, which I believe may be only available in Canada. I’ve found it in Dollarama for $1.50 CAD! It does a great job of removing my nail polish and it’s super affordable!
Deep conditioner: I’m personally a big fan of the Macadamia Deep Repair Masque! It smells delicious and I find it really helps my hair to be super moisturized and sleek!
Hair serum: I really like the Grapeseed Glossing Serum from The Body Shop. It smells super good and is not heavy on my hair.
Heat Protectant: When it comes to heat protectant, I really like the Desert Essence Coconut Hair Defrizzer and Heat Protector. I’m also interested in trying the Briogeo Blow Dry Perfection Heat Protectant. I’ve heard this is an excellent heat protectant, but it’s on the pricier side.
Leave-in conditioner: Renpure makes an excellent leave-in conditioner!
Shampoo & Conditioner: For shampoo and conditioner, I really love brands like Live Clean, Desert Essence, Alba Botanica, JASON, Avalon Organics, and more! There are so many excellent quality, cruelty-free shampoos and conditioners available at all different price points!
Cotton pads/tips: For cotton pads and cotton tips, I really love Swisspers! They’re excellent quality and affordable!
Deodorant: As far as deodorant goes, I find it a bit harder to find an abundance of good quality cruelty-free deodorant options. I personally really like the Schmidt’s Bergamot & Lime Deodorant. I started using it about a month ago, and it’s now my favourite! JASON and Lavanila also make pretty good cruelty-free deodorants. All three deodorants are Aluminum-free, which has it’s pros and cons. For me, the pros far outweigh the cons. That’s a whole other issue, though!
Feminine care: Cruelty-free feminine care brands include Summer’s Eve, Organ(y)c, The DivaCup, Sliquid, Natracare, and Seventh Generation. These brands sell a mix of anything related to feminine care including tampons, pads, feminine wash, and more!
Hair removal: When it comes to hair removal, there aren’t as many cruelty-free options. But, there definitely are some! Everyone has their own preference when it comes to body hair removal. Some people shave, some people wax/sugar, others epilate, and some do a mix. I personally do a mix! For those who are interested in epilating, Panasonic makes excellent epilators. For those who want to wax/sugar, there’s a very easy homemade way or there are cruelty-free estheticians who will do the job for you. And for those who wish to shave, Preserve makes good razors. As far as shaving creams go, I really like Kiss My Face and Alba Botanica. I’ve personally switched over to epilating and waxing/sugaring from shaving, but I used to use those shaving creams quite a bit.
Laundry soap: I’m a big fan of the laundry soap from Seventh Generation. I’ve been buying it for a while now and it’s just so good! Other cruelty-free brands include Nature Clean, J.R. Watkins, Nellie’s, and more!
Floss: For floss, I really like the Vegan Dental Floss from Eco-Dent! It’s just as good as Oral B!
Mouthwash: I really like the Jason Powersmile Mouthwash! I only started using it not too long ago, but it’s really great! There are also numerous other cruelty-free options from brands including Tom’s of Maine, Desert Essence, Dr. Brite, and more!
Toothpaste: As far as toothpaste goes, I really like Tom’s of Maine. I make sure to always use toothpaste with fluoride because it’s good for my teeth. But there are both fluoride and fluoride-free options from JASON, Kiss My Face, Desert Essence, Green Beaver, and more.
Body butter: For body butter, I usually tend to go back to The Body Shop. I just really like them; they’re good quality and are super moisturizing!
Face moisturizer: I personally use the Alba Botanica Natural Hawaiian Oil Free Moisturizer. For me, there’s just nothing else that compares. It so light and soothing, and it also leaves my skin super hydrated without being oily.
Face toner: I personally like using witch hazel. I love that it’s natural, and it’s better and cheaper than so many brand name toners!
Hand lotion/cream: My favourite hand cream of all time is the J.R. Watkins Lemon Cream Hand Cream! It smells so good and it’s super moisturizing! But, I also love the hand creams from The Body Shop and the hand creams from Cake Beauty!
Sunscreen: I really like Alba Botanica and Kiss My Face when it comes to Sunscreen.
These are the cruelty-free brands that I always go back to! I hope this post was helpful! If you live in Canada, most of the above items can be found on Well.ca!
