Seventh Generation Fresh Citrus Natural 2X Concentrated Laundry Detergent Review

I’ve been using the Fresh Citrus Natural Laundry Detergent from Seventh Generation* for a good while now, and I thought I would share my review of this product with you today!  Before I start, though, I just wanted to state that Seventh Generation was recently acquired by Unilever, a brand that tests on animals; however, at the moment, Seventh Generation has vowed to maintain its cruelty-free status.  It’s always sad to see a company being bought by another company that supports animal testing.  I choose to support all cruelty-free brands, regardless of their parent company’s animal testing policy, but it’s still disappointing.  Anyway, now on to the review!

I’ve always had sensitive skin that tends to be affected by certain laundry cleaning products.  Less than a year ago, I started using the Fresh Citrus Natural Laundry Detergent from Seventh Generation, and it’s been working really well for me!  This laundry detergent doesn’t make my skin feel itchy — which other detergents do — and it seems to somehow soften my clothes!  It’s got a nice, light, fresh scent and it leaves my clothes clean and smelling fresh without being overpowering.  That’s because, this laundry detergent is fragranced with natural ingredients, including Buchu leaf oil, carthamus tinctorius (safflower) seed oil, citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) peel oil, gamma-decalactone, and linalool.  I think this laundry soap would be good for people who have sensitive skin and like their clothes to have a light, fresh scent.

On the flip side, there are certain chemicals in this laundry detergent that I know certain people will not be interested in using; however, I think this laundry detergent is much better than most other laundry detergents — other than 100% pure ones.

Here are the ingredients in the Fresh Citrus Natural Laundry Detergent from Seventh Generation:

water, laureth-6 (plant-derived cleaning agent), sodium lauryl sulfate (plant-derived cleaning agent), sodium citrate (plant-derived water softener), glycerin (plant-derived enzyme stabilizer), sodium chloride (mineral-based viscosity modifier), oleic acid (plant-derived anti-foaming agent), sodium hydroxide (mineral-based pH adjuster), calcium chloride (mineral-based enzyme stabilizer), citric acid (plant-derived pH adjuster), protease, amylase, and mannanase (plant-derived enzyme blend soil removers), and benzisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone (synthetic preservatives).

I would say this Seventh Generation laundry detergent is on the more affordable side, as far as cruelty-free/natural laundry detergents go.  It costs approximately $8.99 for 1.47 L (or approximately 33 medium loads).

Here are some pros and cons of the Fresh Citrus Natural Laundry Detergent from Seventh Generation!

Light scent
Suitable for Standard and HE machines
Free of dyes and synthetic fragrances
Good for sensitive skin

Not available in as many stores as other laundry detergents

Overall, I really like this laundry detergent!  The only thing that I don’t like is that Seventh Generation was sold to Unilever.  Very disappointing!

*Note: Seventh Generation is cruelty-free; however, its parent company is not.
