I absolutely love animals! So for today’s blog post I’m going to discuss a few little ways that we can all help animals! These are small things that are so easy to do, but help animals in incredible ways. These are things that I chose to start doing years ago, and I know are making a difference!
The first thing you can do to help animals is to choose to adopt rather that buy an animal from a pet store or a breeder. There are so many animals who need good homes, and I feel like it’s selfish and unkind to ignore innocent and helpless animals in shelters to purchase a specific breed or purebred animal. So many animals are euthanized each day because shelters just do not have the capacity to house every single animal that arrives. This is why it’s important to adopt.
Another thing that you can do to help animals is choose to buy cruelty-free as much as possible. By choosing to buy products that haven’t been tested on animals, it’s making a huge difference in the lives of animals. Millions and millions of animals are tortured every year by unnecessary experiments. If you have no experience with buying cruelty-free, start slow. Try looking up your favourite brands to see it they test on animals, and if they do, see if there are any suitable alternatives. Eventually buying cruelty-free will all become second nature to you!
A third thing that you can do to help animals is introduce vegan meals to your diet. If you’re really committed, become a full-time vegan. If that’s not feasible for you right now, try introducing vegan meals at least one day a week, or however often you choose. Even if you only have one vegan meal a week to start, it’s making a difference! There are vegan alternatives to pretty much all of our favourite foods, so choosing vegan options is easier than ever!
The next thing you can do to help animals is to make sure you get your pets spayed/neutered. It’s important that we try to control the pet population because there are so many homeless animals that just want to be loved and taken care of. I always feel like if someone can’t afford to get their pet spayed/neutered, they can’t really afford to have a pet. This will really help animals by giving shelter animals a chance of getting adopted.
Another thing that you can do to help animals is sign petitions. I sign so many petitions that are created to help animals. Just signing your name to something is helping animals. If these petitions get a lot of support, they can create a huge positive difference for so many animals. It only takes a few seconds to sign a petition online, but it really helps animals.
The final thing you can do to help animals is to educate yourself on different issues regarding animals, whether it’s the meat industry, dairy industry, egg industry, leather industry, fur industry, or any other animal welfare issues. Education is power. It’s so important to understand what happens in the world. Just because we hide ourselves from hearing about certain upsetting issues, it doesn’t mean it’s not happening. So if we choose to educate ourselves, we can maybe take steps to make changes and help animals.
The more people that do this, the better the result for animals. So while we’re each only one person, as a group we create such a difference and an incredible change. Let’s all choose to live a little more cruelty-free and help animals!
