Why I Aspire To Be 100% Vegan

Last year, I wrote a post about why I decided to go vegetarian and have been for over 3 years now.  For today’s post, I thought I would discuss the reasons why I would like to go completely vegan.  Like I did in my vegetarian post, I want to warn you that parts of this post may upset some people.

I’ve always heard about how the dairy industry has such close ties with the meat industry.  I never used to understand why …until I decided to research.  What I found was absolutely horrendous!  I can’t even describe the sickness that I felt when I found out that the dairy industry and the meat industry are basically the same gross industry.

As dumb as it sounds, I always thought that milk cows naturally produced milk.  This is not the case.  Like humans, they have to become pregnant to produce milk.  A dairy cow’s life is constant impregnation and giving birth, along with constantly being milked.  This significantly cuts down on their life span.  As soon as a cow birth’s her calf, that calf is taken from their mother …with both of them crying.  If the calf is born female, she will most likely live the same harsh and painful life as her mother.  If the calf is born male, then he will most likely be raised for veal because male cows are considered “useless” to the industry.  Milk cows, and their offspring, are beaten, kicked, hit …very badly abused.  The dairy industry is a very disgusting industry and now that I know how it is, I want to stop supporting it.

I also never want to support the egg industry again.  The egg industry is also a gross industry.  Hens are kept in horrible living conditions with no room to move or spread their wings.  They have to constantly lay eggs.  Chicks raised for egg production have their beaks sliced off to prevent them from nipping.  And millions of chicks that hatch are thrown away like garbage.  They’re usually suffocated, gassed, or ground alive because they are considered “useless”.  Many chicks that are thrown away are left to die an excruciating death.  Aside from the terrible living conditions these animals have to live in, many also have to deal with physical abuse from humans.  I don’t know what it is about these industries, but they seem to attract many workers who physically abuse the animals.  Many animals also contract infections and diseases that leave them to die a slow and very painful death.

The meat, dairy, and egg industries are disgusting, cruel, and completely unnecessary.  I would like to be 100% vegan.  It’s not worth an animal suffering for me to be able to enjoy a certain food.  There are so many alternatives and I fully intent to explore them!  Right now, I make vegan choices whenever I can, but I know I can do better!

My goal is to make sure that I, as an individual, never contribute to an animal suffering in any way, and that includes giving my money to people who do cause animal suffering.

Thank you so much for reading!
